The
Manhattan Childrens Center program provides a world-class facility
offering scientifically based behavioral educational interventions
to children diagnosed with autism. We are partnering in research
and service activities with Columbia University Teachers College
faculty and students.
Many children with autism can learn to function in a regular classroom.
Our mission is to provide quality treatment and education to these
children so that they will be able to integrate into the general
education population with minimal further support. In addition,we
provide parental support and education together with training for
educators and other professionals. We will conduct research to contribute
to the understanding of the cause of autism.
With early treatment, children with autism can truly fulfill their
potential. Many successful and exceptional individuals with autism
include: Dr. Temple Grandin, a world renowned expert on livestock
and designer of humane livestock facilities who is on the faculty
of Colorado State University; Donna Williams, an artist and poet
who has authored several books; and Jen Birch, who runs conferences
and workshops to help individuals with autism.
The Manhattan Childrens Center provides the New York community with
a world-class educational – scientific setting where educators,
scientists, clinicians, parents and other interested professionals
can work together to help our community’s autistic children
reach their full potential.
